1. What is your one thing?
It’s easy in the midst of study and ministry demands to lose sight of the most important reason we exist. Living our lives in a manner worthy of Christ brings glory and honor to God. As we do that, we will have opportunities to share the gospel as people see a difference in our lives. Christmas is a great time when people are more open to gospel conversations. The pace of life and ministry changes for a few weeks, and you may find yourself having more opportunities to talk about why Jesus makes your life so much better.
2. Live your life in a manner worthy of Christ
If you read on in Philippians, you will find that Paul encouraged the believers to follow Jesus in His example of humility. Living your life in a manner worthy of Christ is following His example to live in the way that He lived. What kind of life did Jesus live?
He humbled Himself instead of built Himself up.
He noticed people who were unnoticeable.
He spoke truth even when it was painful to those who heard it.
He loved even when He wasn’t loved back.
What does it mean then for you and me to live our lives in a manner worthy of Christ? It means we stay focused on Christ. Simplistic as it may seem, how easily do we get distracted in our digital society? If you’re like me, you may feel like your attention span is getting shorter with each new breakthrough in technology. So back to the initial question…What is your one thing? As we break for Christmas, take some time to answer this question. Has anything caused to you to lose your focus this semester? Has life overwhelmed you to the point that you really can’t remember what direction you are going or why? As hopefully you will have a little more time for rest and reflection in the next few weeks, remember this…
“Just one thing: Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”
